Summer Arts Offerings
During Holy Week and Easter, a few of us who would have typically been involved in facilitating musical worship redirected our quarantined energies to a series of “Easter Offerings”: performances, readings, and reflections on works of art selected to help us perceive the beauty of Christ as refracted through great works of art. Now, in mid-summer, we are going to continue that series, but in a slightly modified form.
In keeping with the gift of the Holy Spirit poured abroad at Pentecost, we’ve asked a wider breadth of artists and “celebrants” from our Church to contribute; we’ve also invited and encouraged greater flexibility for what these offerings can be. Some will present original work with commentary, others will select a piece as pertinent for our time and attention set it forth for our consideration. As we continue to pursue life together in the midst of pandemic disruptions and irregularities, this is one way in which we can continue to experience the richness of our common life as we use the arts to help each other perceive the light of Christ as refracted through the world, and the world as illuminated by the light of Christ.
